Anita Muçolli (*1993 in Burgdorf, CH) is an artist of Kosovarian origin based in Basel, Switzerland.
Anita Muçolli's artistic practice explores the emergence of horror and science-fiction scenarios as a processing reaction to technological advancement. Her investigations focus on the extent to which such progress leads to heightened anxiety in societies and how this anxiety is externalized, materialized, and handled through narratives and forms. She pays close attention to the process of externalizing inner images and archetypes. Additionally, her interest lies in the subliminal, hidden motives and behavioral patterns of the psyche in the face of human decline and crisis. Her work is deeply dedicated to understanding how these psychological undercurrents become perceptible within society.
The various side effects and consequences of human decisions, both for humanity and other species in a global context, consistently lie at the heart of her artistic research.
In her choice of media, Anita Muçolli untiringly pushes the boundaries of the materials she uses. In doing so, she explores centuries-old crafts as well as new technologies, and often brings them together: Machine and handcraft unite in her works and establish a new field of tension, while attempting to challenge conventional modes of creation. In her installations, she considers the spatial conditions and frequently integrates the architecture of the exhibition venue into her works.
Anita Muçolli has exhibited in various group shows including at Kunsthaus Baselland, Kunsthaus Langenthal, Kunsthalle Palazzo, Liestal, Museo Villa dei Cedri, Bellinzona, The National Gallery of Kosovo, Pristina, Westfälischer Kunstverein, Münster, Gallery Von Bartha, Basel, Kunst- und Kulturzentrum Montabaur, Germany, and the Swiss Art Awards, Basel. Her first solo show was held at Sattelkammer, Bern, followed by Liste Art Fair, Basel, Kulturfolger, Zurich, and the Centre d'Art Contemporain Yverdon.
She was awarded the Helvetia Art Prize 2021, is amongst the laureates of the Kiefer │ Hablitzel Göhner Art Prize 2022 and was nominated for the Swiss Art Awards 2024 and the Shizuko Yoshikawa Award.
